Celebrate Yugadi in Conventry.
SPANDANA, an association of families and residents hailing from Karnataka and living Coventry, are planning its annual Yugadi (New Year) celebration on Saturday 28 March.
The primary mission of the Association is to promote, preserve and maintain the cultural and linguistic heritage of Karnataka and foster the interests of Kannadigas – people who speak the Kannada language – as well as to enrich the diverse cultural mosaic of Coventry with the best of Indian traditions.
Yugadi is one of two major events organized by SPANDANA – the other being Diwali.
During its Yugadi celebrations, parents get an opportunity to involve themselves in various activities and to expose their children to the rich culture and traditions of Karnataka.
Yugadi festival is one of the most important festivals for people of south Indian origin. It marks the beginning of the New Year in the traditional Hindu calendar.
The event will be held at the Welcome Banqueting Suites in Coventry.
Program highlights include traditional dance performances, ‘Yakshagana’ – an ancient Kannada theatre form that combines different dance and music genres with unique dialogues; a Bharatnatyam performance; Prayer sessions, a Bollywood segment and various other activities.
