An Indian visa centre is to opened in Leicester following a 20-year campaign led by Keith Vaz, MP.
The centre - located at the Peepul Centre in the city's famous Belgrave Road - will be a satellite of the Indian High Commission, allowing residents to more easily obtain travel documents to India.
The High Commission currently operates similar visa centres in Birmingham, Edinburgh and Cardiff.
Mr Vaz, MP for Leicester East, said the centre was a "big win" for Leicester, where a third of residents are of Indian origin.
Jaffar Kapasi, of the Leicester Asian Business Association, said the new centre was "very welcome news for the business community… it will save time and money".BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
