#DoubleLife: Media Moguls drops Bhangra star San2 after sex attack conviction

Media Moguls, the well-known PR company, has terminated its relationship with the promising young Bhangra artist San2 after the singer was jailed for a sex attack in Nottingham.

San2 was sentenced to nine months imprisonment at Nottingham Crown Court earlier this month after being convicted of attacking a female passenger inside a mini-cab.

The 24-year-old singer, a father of two, had been working as a taxi driver to supplement his music income.

A jury heard that San2 had kissed and touched his inebriated, 17-year-old victim who has been left "severely traumatized" by the incident.

In a statement, Media Moguls CEO Raj Ghai, expressed his shock at the singer's conviction.

"Having worked with him over the past couple of years it was a great surprise to me when the allegations surfaced", said Mr Ghai.

"I cannot take these allegations lightly and have decided with immediate effect to terminate my professional relationship with him.  My personal investment in both time and money has been substantial – and I have much to lose – but nevertheless I have no alternative other than to disassociate myself and my companies from him", he added.

San2 had been represented by the company's Virtual Recordz subsidiary.

On Thursday, San2's family issued an ambiguous statement through Media Moguls.

The statement read: "As a family we are shocked and devastated at the outcome".

Whilst maintaining the singer's innocence, the statement confusingly added that the family stood by San2 and would "do everything to prove his innocence" despite the conviction.

The family also requested media outlets to "respect the family's wishes by not spreading rumours and speculations".

The statements by Media Moguls and San2's family come after several days of intense speculation as to the real identity of the singer who was referred to as "Dhanraj Singh", a "successful Bhangra artist" in court documents.

There has been confusion surrounding San2's real name with some reports referring to him variously as "Sant Parkash Singh" and "Santu Singh".

The singer was last active on Twitter on 22 October.

San2 had reportedly been preparing to travel to Mumbai days before his arrest.

Sentencing the singer, Judge Gregory Dickinson said: "You are a talented, award-winning musician.  You have put all of that in jeopardy. You were responsible for her safety and well-being.

"You took advantage of a lone female passenger who had been drinking."

The court was told that the victim continues to undergo counseling due to the attack, which has also affected her studies and left her feeling “vulnerable”.

San2's defence counsel Mark Achurch said that the singer had been working "anti-social hours" to support his family and had had his taxi driver's license cancelled soon after the allegations first emerged.

He had since been on "benefits", Mr Achurch added.

Born in Nottingham, the singer grew up in a musical family and followed his father and grandfather as a classically-trained singer and musician.

After years of trying to make it as a musician - including auditioning for Britain's Got Talent - San2 found global fame with his 2013 release 'Nayo Lagda' and received widespread praise for his soulful voice and his ability to switch between myriad classical and contemporary genres.

He also received the backing of high-profile names in the music business: from BBC Radio 1's DJ Nihal - a long-term supporter and promoter of new talent - through British Asian superstar Rishi Rich to Bollywood playback singer Shaan.
