#StarPower: SRK joins ZEE TV's 20th anniversary celebrations in London

Zee TV, one of the world’s largest South Asian TV networks, celebrated two decades broadcasting in Europe on Wednesday night with a gala dinner that drew in not only the great and good of the British Asian media industry but India’s most well-known celeb Shah Rukh Khan.

‘King Khan’ was joined by Zee TV CEO Punit Goenka and a host of other industry veterans for the event which also saw the launch of the network’s latest offering – the wonderfully-named &TV.  The conjunction is a reference to the new channel’s commitment to “bind people, ideologies and philosophies”, Zee said in a statement.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Neeraj Dhingra, CEO, ZEE Network Europe CEO, said: “Zee TV has been a pioneer in bringing great Asian entertainment to the UK and fostering cultural ties with India.

“We are certain that with the launch of the contemporary channel &TV, these ties will strengthen.  The channel promises multi-dimensional content and a strong line-up of entertainment and reality shows, and we are beyond excited to have Shah Rukh Khan as the host of our flagship entertainment programme.  We are certain that the audience will enjoy seeing a different side of their superstar!”

Leading the new channel’s offerings will be ‘Poochega Sabse Shaana Kaun’, Shah Rukh Khan’s long-awaited return to the small screen.

The show is an adaptation of the famous ‘Who’s Asking?’ format which first originated in Israel before spreading to Europe and North America.  In the program, contestants must tap into their general knowledge and street smarts to answer questions based not on the content but who is asking the question.

Other shows on &TV’s roster include ‘Killer Karaoke – Atka Loh Tatkah’, a singing show with a twist and ‘Tujhse Naaraz Nahi Zindagi’, a human interest show built around issues faced by ordinary people.

&TV’s launch further entrenches Zee TV’s status as the pre-eminent South Asian TV network in the UK and Europe.

That network already includes the likes of Zee TV, Zee Cinema, Zing and Zee Punjabi.

Mr Goenka said: “We are proud to be a medium through which Indians living abroad have stayed connected to their roots back home all these years and we will continue to entertain and engage audiences with a unique blend of high-quality and innovative programming”.

“Our newest addition &TV will offer a more substantial viewing experience to an audience that is always seeking fresh and relevant content.  We are certain that with the launch of &TV, we will capitalize on further such opportunities to build a robust entertainment bouquet and march ahead towards achieving the global ambitions set for the company”, he said.

&TV will be free-to-air beginning 6 April and is available on Sky Channel 795.
